The Penn Clinic was established 30 years ago by the founder and Clinic Director Caroline Penn. Caroline’s philosophy of treatment and healing:
“When I started the clinic 30 years ago, I was still recovering from serious head injury. I determined to establish a clinic where patients would (feel at home) be heard on two levels; their verbal description of their problems and their body’s inner message.
I knew that cranial osteopathy would comprise a major part of what I wanted to make available to patients, but I also realised that there is no one answer to everything; we need to be open to whatever is needed for individuals at the particular time we are working with them.
I have benefited hugely myself from an integrated approach to my own recovery and am proud that the clinic is able to offer such a wealth of talent and professionalism.”

DO(Hons), MSc, MSCC, HANDLE Affiliate
Qualified from the BSO in 1979 with an honours diploma. Began post graduate studies in cranial osteopathy immediately and was invited to join the BSO post-graduate faculty in 1982. Since then Caroline has been involved in teaching osteopathy at undergraduate and post-graduate levels and in many countries including Germany, France, Switzerland, Denmark, New Zealand, Austrailia, USA. Caroline is a qualified teacher and established an accredited teacher training programme specifically for osteopaths in 1993. Caroline is a founder member of The Sutherland Cranial College (an independent cranial teaching faculty). Also a founder Osteopath with the Osteopathic Centre for Children (Now The Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy).
Caroline completed a Masters degree in Osteopathy in 2003 undertaking research with infants under three months old with breathing difficulties.
Caroline is an authority on problems in babies and has worked with infants in special care baby units in Hertfordshire and London, and collaborated with audiology services in Hertfordshire for glue ear problems in children.
Caroline has pioneered osteopathic work in the dental field, with jaw and occlusion problems. She has a close working relationship with a number of orthodontists.
Caroline has also taken further study in areas which include, gestalt psychotherapy, traumatic and disc injuries, scoliosis and neurodevelopmental and behavioural issues.
Caroline’s insight I enjoy working with patients across their whole life span, from birth through to the winter years. I place an emphasis on preventative care which had fired my enthusiasm for working with infants and for helping folk throughout life to understand their body and be pro-active in maintaining their own health.
I live life to the full and have researched solutions to my own health problems which began with serious head injury in 1977. I never cease to be amazed at the healing power of the body and the incredible changes that osteopathy can achieve. I have great respect for the different healthcare disciplines and pride myself on seeking out the best complementary approaches and therapists to enhance our osteopathic work at the clinic. With tough cases, or those wanting to push themselves to higher levels of health and fitness, working as a team offers so much more than one practitioner alone can achieve.
Caroline’s passions I love walking in wild places especially mountains, swimming in lakes and rivers, gazing across wide vistas, singing, dancing and spending time with my family.

ADMINISTRATION
ELAINE BLOYCE - Reception - Click Here to read more
I have worked at The Penn Clinic for over twenty years. My job as receptionist involves lots of duties; I take particular responsibility for the filing system and keeping the household stocks up to date. But the part of the job I enjoy most is meeting the people who come for help. They are all ages and from all walks of life. When they first come many of them are visibly in pain; it is lovely to see them coming back looking so much better and enjoying life again. I love helping the mother’s who bring their babies and children for help. I am often able to assist while they wait to be seen, or if they stay afterwards to breast feed. I’ve had three of my own children and now I have eight grandchildren, so I am used to a full house and I love to help people in any way I can. Before I worked at The Penn Clinic I was in the Wool Shop in Hatfield Town. I used to help people with their knitting projects! That was fun – but the variety of this job is never ending and infinitely interesting and challenging!
Elaine’s passions I love sitting quietly in my garden and listening to the sound of birdsong. I can close my eyes and imagine I am in a meadow in beautiful countryside. It relaxes me all over!
KIM MARTIN - Clinic Manager - Click Here to read more
I have worked at the clinic for 13 years and have enjoyed seeing the range of help available to patients here develop. I work closely with Caroline Penn in my job as clinic manager. I am responsible for coordinating all the different practitioners as well as managing the systems we have in place – it can be challenging, but it is very interesting and satisfying when everything runs smoothly! It is very rewarding when patients comment that their visits to the clinic are not only helping their health, but that they are grateful that the reception team is a familiar force! As I have now been at the clinic for 13 years I have seen many patients who first came as babies growing up through the years. It is marvellous to see them doing well!
Prior to working at the Penn Clinic I worked within two financial institutions holding a variety of positions ranging from secretarial cashiering and administration.
My idea of heaven? A jigsaw puzzle of Elvis Presley and a rainy day!
LINDA HALPIN - Reception - Click Here to read more
I have been working here now for just over 4 years. I work very closely alongside Kim on reception, welcoming patients to the clinic, making appointments on the phone assisting all staff as best I can to make their day run smoothly. I am responsible for housekeeping try to keep the clinic clean but “homely” as some patients have told me. I do enjoy being able to give attention to all our patients as times allows, especially if the patients are showing signs of stress – people may be unable to bend to put their shoes on if the have a bad back or mums with small babies or with another child coming along for the first time need assistance – it’s all part of the job! I also like the close association with all staff; we really do try to work as a team, helping each other out when needed.
I have worked in the medical field nearly all of my working career including hospitals, dental clinics and opticians. I have always enjoyed the caring atmosphere of The Penn Clinic. I have found that osteopathy offers a more gentle type of healing while still proving to be a very powerful way of treatment; and the patients are lovely – they really appreciate the help they receive.
Linda’s passions I have been in the Rollercoaster Club of Great Britain for nearly 20 years and have enjoyed many trips and holidays in Europe and the USA. I could not believe there were other people who could feel the same! The main meeting of the Club is at Blackpool where 400 – 500 people gather. I have made many long lasting friendships at the club. As well as the obvious places such as theme parks in the USA, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon… we also visit an exceptional place called Cedar Point in Ohio. The staff are so friendly and always give the club a fine welcome – usually 90 Brits turn up together! My favourite coaster is called Raptor and is a suspension or hanging coaster at Cedar Point. The tallest one I have been on is Dragster, also at Cedar Point. It is 410 feet tall and reaches speeds of 120 miles per hour…
