Allow an hour for your first appointment. Further visits are 30
minutes.
The osteopath will ask you about your problem and take a full medical
history.
Please bring details of any medication you are taking and, if available,
the results of any x-rays, scans or tests. You do not have to see your
doctor before seeing the osteopath.
It will be necessary to undress to your underwear for full examination
(bring shorts if you prefer). The osteopath will usually ask you to try
some simple movements and carry out tests such as reflexes. Most people
find treatment relaxing.
Examination need not be painful. Let the osteopath know. The osteopath
will explain what he or she has found and discuss a treatment plan with
you. This may include exercises or advice for self-help.
Sometimes the osteopath will write to your doctor, perhaps to ask for
the results of tests, or to have some tests done; this will be discussed
with you.
AFTER TREATMENT avoid strenuous activity. It is not unusual to
experience some soreness in the area of the problem, or even distant areas.
It should not last for more than 24 - 48 hours. Do telephone if you have
any concerns.
CHILDREN & INFANTS allow 30-40 minutes for their first visit. You
will be sent a questionnaire to complete and return before the
appointment. This allows the osteopath to concentrate on the child and
avoids them feeling 'talked about'. You may download and print this questionnaire
from the General Information section of this website. Click here
to go directly to that page.
NEWBORN INFANT checks are free of charge for the first two weeks
of age. There is a Mother & Baby information leaflet available for download
from the General Information section of this website. Click here
to go directly to that page.
Treatment is more effective if your child is relaxed and keeps still.
Parents can help for example, by reading to their child during treatment.
The clinic has toys & books, but do bring any favourites from home.
Where possible children are examined in their underwear, however, with
younger children the osteopath may lift clothing to look at the child's
spine rather than cause upset on the first visit. Teenagers often bring
a pair of shorts to wear.
There is limited wheelchair access and ground floor toilet facilities.
Please let us know in advance if you cannot manage stairs.
Fees may be paid by cash or cheque.
Do ask if you have any questions and enjoy your visit!
